Emily worked hard to run the hat shop so that the family could maintain a normal and peaceful life. Such worry-free days were given to Matisse The rise of art in 1908 provided a peaceful environment, and Emily's 1908 "Red Harmony" is a beautiful portrayal of that time. With Matisse's prominent performance in several autumn salons, some avant-garde art collectors began to pay attention to and collect his work, The number of students in Matisse's studio also increased, and life became prosperous. They bought a spacious villa on the outskirts of Paris in 1911, when Matisse was 42 years old.
The 1908 Harmony of the Red is considered by some art historians to be the masterpiece of Matisse. Matisse was heavily influenced by the post-Impressionist painters Van Gogh, Gauguin, Paul Cezanne, an avid admirer of Japanese art and subjects. He used flat, bright and often unnatural colors to develop his style and always sketched his form in a van Gogh-like fashion. This Fauvist painting, like the Impressionist painter Claude Monet, has no central focus. The painting was originally set as "Harmony in Blue," but Matisse was not pleased with the result, so he painted it over in his preferred red.
In 1908, Matisse created one of his most important works from 1908 to 1913 in his Paris studio, whose windows overlooked the monastery garden. The artist himself called it "the decorative panel," which was designed for the dining room of the famous Russian collector Sergei Shchukin in his Moscow mansion.
Matisse turned to the theme common in his paintings: a room decorated with vases, fruits, and flowers. However, as he wrote in 1908, "The foundations of my thinking have not changed, but thinking itself has evolved, and my mode of expression continues, swallowing up the three-dimensional space of the room, subtly confirming the decorative potential of the canvas's surface.
