The painting was created in 1882, when Van Gogh was 29 years old and in the formative period of his painting style. The painting is set in the countryside of The Hague, Netherlands, and depicts a scene of women mending fishing nets on a sand dune.

It is reported that the paper panel oil painting "Woman Mending a Fishnet on a Dune" is a treasure in the collection of a European collector. After being publicly exhibited in Montreal, it has been a classic loan collection of the Van Gogh Museum for many years, attracting a large number of tourists. Before creating this work, Van Gogh had only two years of painting experience.
