The cave was built between the fifth year of Tang Dazhong and the third year of Xiantong (851-862). It was the shadow hall of the monks who ruled Hong in the Shimen capital in the west of the Tang River. This cave is located on the north wall of the 16th cave corridor, which sits north and faces south. In the 26th year of the Qing Dynasty (1900), it was discovered by Wang Daoshi (Wang Yuanrong), the presiding officer of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang. It contains Buddhist scriptures, social documents, silk paintings, embroidery, spiritual tools and other cultural relics from the 4th to the 11th century AD. Therefore, it is also known as the "Tibetan Scripture Cave". The plane of the cave is nearly square, covered with a bucket-shaped roof, and the top of the cave and the four walls have no murals. In front of the north wall is a rectangular low altar of the type of Zen bed, and The west wall is inlaid with the monument of Hong Jiaoyu in the fifth year of Dazhong (AD 851). On the north wall, double trees were painted in the late Tang Dynasty. On the west side, under the tree, there were paintings of a maid (holding a coach and a towel), and cloth bags were hung between the trees; under the tree on the east side, there were paintings of a bhikshuni (holding a fan), and a kettle was hung between the trees. There were no murals on the east and south walls. No corridors, no front rooms.
