The lighthouse in Westerkapele, near Domburg, is cut off from the background and framed from below with dazzling views. The work belongs to the artist's Neo-Impressionist period after Munch.

In the evolution of Mondrian's art, this small work, painted on cardboard in loose stippling, clearly belongs to works dating back to 1908, such as Windmill in the Sun.

In this little sketch, the focus is on a completely different aspect of the painting's possibilities. Colour now occupies an important place in Mondrian's work, and he is no longer concerned with the stark contrast of things with their surroundings; instead, he is concerned with the stark contrast of things with their surroundings. Just as another Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian, was one of the most important leaders of the Dutch avant-garde during his lifetime. His use of color, his pointillism, and his way of evoking the unity of nature through vivid colors ensured his status. But for Mondrian and many of his French contemporaries, Fauvism proved to be a stopover on the road to the new style of the future.
