Why was Peach Fuzz 13-1023 selected as the Pantone 2024 Color of the Year?
In times of upheaval in many aspects of our lives, our need for nurturing, empathy and compassion grows stronger and our imagination of a more peaceful future grows stronger. We are reminded that an important part of living a fulfilling life is having good health, stamina and strength to enjoy life. In a world where productivity and external achievement are often emphasized, it is vital that we recognise the importance of nurturing our inner self and find moments of respite, creativity and connection in the hustle and bustle of modern life. As we grasp the present moment and build a new world, we are reassessing what is important. We redefine the way we want to live and express ourselves with greater intention and consideration. Realigning our priorities to align with our internal values, we focus on health and well-being, both mentally and physically, cherishing something special - the warmth and comfort of spending time with friends and family, or just spending a little time alone. With this in mind, we wanted to move to a color that could focus on the importance of community and gathering with others. The color we chose as Pantone's Color of the Year for 2024 needed to express our desire to be close to our loved ones and the joy we get when we allow ourselves to adjust our identity and enjoy quiet time alone. It needed to be a warm and welcoming color that conveyed a message of compassion and empathy. A cultured person whose comfortable sensibility brings people together and elicits a touch. It reflects how we feel for a few days and looks simpler, but at the same time has been rephrased to show a more modern vibe. Its soft lightness and light presence carry us into the future.

How did Pantone choose Pantone Color of the Year?
For each year, Pantone Color Institute's global team of color experts scours the world for new color influences. This can include films in the entertainment industry and in production, travel art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, ideal travel destinations, new lifestyles, play styles or enjoyable escapes, and socioeconomic conditions. Influences can also come from new technologies, materials, textures and effects that influence color, relevant social media platforms, and even upcoming sporting events that capture the world's attention.
Anything that happens in our culture during the year affects our choice of Pantone Color of the Year, and each source is given a different weight each year depending on what happened in our culture at that time. For example, if you look back 15 years ago, technology played a minimal role. Today, that is no longer the case. Gaming, social media, augmented and virtual reality, and physical design itself are all influenced by our technology and the colors we have access to in our digital environment.

How does the selection process work? How does Pantone choose its Color of the Year each year?
The Pantone Color of the Year selection process requires careful consideration and trend analysis. This is the culmination of year-round macro color trend forecasting and research conducted by the global team participating in the Pantone Color Institute, informing this selection and the colors included in our Color Trend Forecasting products.
We choose colors in a very pure way. No one in our global team participates in any Pantone Color of the Year discussions with a business agenda or personal preference. Instead, each of us chooses Pantone Color of the Year in a very pure way. As we always say: "We treat all colors equally."
There is also the misconception that one day we gather a group of color influencers in a room and make a decision. Since many of our Pantone Color Institute team members have their own design studios, contribute to impactful global trend predictions, work with clients to specify color choices for brand or product visual identity, and even teach color lessons, their daily conversations are rooted in color and design, including materials and surface finishes.
As a result, conversations related to Pantone's annual color selection don't take place at one isolated meeting at a specific time of year. It's a long and ongoing conversation between a group of people with different skin tones. Our Pantone Color Institute team members come from a wide range of design, cultural, and geographic backgrounds. What they have in common is their expertise in color and design, and their ability to see the world through the lens of color. That's why I compare them to color anthropologists. They have this intuitive ability to connect everything that's happening in the world and translate it into the language of color.
What particularly fascinated me about the Pantone Color of the Year selection process was that even though our Pantone Color Institute members lived in different locations and were involved in different design fields, we were always able to reach a consensus.
Of course, different opinions emerge and we study them carefully, but since Pantone's Color of the Year reflects what is happening in global culture at the time, a lot of what we observe and visually see can be very similar. We discuss color psychology and color trend research in hopes of connecting the global zeitgeist to the corresponding color series. From there, we delve further to determine the right shade.
